Summary

Troubleshooting steps to fix system getting stuck by entering Basic Input Output System (BIOS) setup message while booting

Description

Intel® Server System will get stuck when entering BIOS setup message on boot.

Resolution

If you are unable to enter the BIOS setup by pressing the F2 key, there are a couple of things that can help isolate the issue:

  • Verify whether or not there is a Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (KVM) device installed:

If so, disconnect the monitor from the KVM and connect it directly to the motherboard port.

If the system is able to boot into the BIOS setup, the issue is with the KVM switch.

  • If you are unable to access the BIOS with the F2 key:
  1. Press the F6 key to access the boot manager on the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
  2. Type Exit and press Enter to access the BIOS menu.
  • Check to see if there is a newer BIOS version available. If an older BIOS is currently installed, a BIOS update to the latest version may resolve the issue.
