Summary
Provides you with BIOS settings to help lower CPU throttling events.
Description
There are many messages about the CPUs throttling.
The following are examples:
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU8: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU36: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU6: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU34: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU41: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU36: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU6: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
Mar 15 17:34:14 rl043 kernel: CPU34: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)

Resolution
Proceed as follows:
- Ensure the BIOS is up to date. For updating instructions
- Reboot the system into the board BIOS [see BIOS Setup Utility Guide for Intel® Server Systems].
- Go to Advanced > System Acoustic and Performance Configuration menu and proceed as follows:
- Select Performance as the Set Fan Profile option.
- Try any of the Fan Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Offset settings from 0 to 100. Keep in mind that the higher the number, the noisier the system may become.
