How to make the nodes seen again by the iDRAC.

Description

Nodes not reachable through Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) after rebooting all Knights Landing (KNL)–based nodes:


No access to Baseboard Management Controller (BMC)


When executing the racadm getniccfg command, the following is shown:

LOM Status:
NIC Selection = LOM1
Link Detected = No
Speed = Unknown
Duplex Mode = Unknown
Active NIC = None
Active LOM in Shared Mode = None
FailOver LOM in Shared Mode = None

 

NoteThis inaccessibility may also happen after updating the iDRAC firmware (FW) of all KNL nodes or rebooting.
Resolution

Try the following steps:

  1. Make sure iDRAC firmware is the latest* version.
  2. Restart all nodes through the operating system (OS) reboot command.
  3. Reset iDRAC ipmitool mc reset cold through the OS. iDRAC should now be set to Shared LOM1.
NoteAdditionally, to reset the iDRACs, you could also use the following local commands:
  • racadm racreset soft
  • racadm racreset hard
  • ipmitool mc reset hard
