Using Video Cable Adapters, Splitters and/or Docking Stations in Computers not Manufactured by Intel

Description

  • Wrong color or resolution, flickering, low refresh rate and any other graphics-related issues observed when using a video cable adapters, a splitter and/or a docking station to attach a monitor to a computer or to a laptop that has not been manufactured by Intel.
  • Monitors are shaky/have noise.
  • The docking station previously worked with the laptop.
  • When connected to the docking station, an extended monitor no longer displays graphics.

Resolution

Intel does not recommend using any kind of adapters and can not guarantee 3rd party products/adapters will work as expected.

However, you can try the following to resolve the issue(s):

  • Use a direct connection with a single cable that has the same connection type on both ends (HDMI to HDMI, DP to DP, etc.).
  • Check the display cable to ensure the cable is good and that it isn't the source of the display problem.
  • Update the graphics driver to the latest version. Contact your system manufacturer to check if there is a graphics driver update available for your system.
  • Check if Windows* and your BIOS is up to date. Check with the system manufacturer to see if updates are available for your system.
  • Install the latest generic graphics driver released by Intel from the Download Center.
  • If using a docking station, update the dock driver to the latest version. Contact your system manufacturer to check if there is a driver update available for the dock.
NoteWe recommend that you check first with your computer manufacturer and use the driver software provided by them to avoid potential installation incompatibilities. Intel supplies generic versions of Graphics Drivers for general purposes. Computer manufacturers might have changed the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to the graphics driver software or software packaging.

If the issue persists, it is possible that the adapter is not supported by the controller. In that case, you'll need to contact the adapter manufacturer for possible workarounds.
