What is the Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) Verification Utility for? Built into many Intel® Chipset–based platforms is a small, low-power computer subsystem called the Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME). The Intel® ME performs various tasks while the system is in sleep, during the start process, and when your system is running. This subsystem must function correctly to get the most performance and capability from your PC. This utility checks that the Intel® ME subsystem is running and communicating properly up to the operating system. This utility can give the system builder and user a clearer understanding that in the case of any system start or performance issue, the Intel® ME is not the trouble spot.
Who is this tool designed for? This tool is designed for anyone who wants to check that the Intel® ME subsystem is operating properly. This functionality would primarily be for professional system builders or IT administrators, but it could extend to home users who want to verify that their PC is running as expected.
Which platforms and chipsets are supported? Currently, we support the following chipsets regardless of your system manufacturer or the motherboard in your PC:
  • Intel® Q57/H57/H55/P55 Express Chipset
  • Mobile Intel® QM57/QS57/HM57/HM55/PM55 Express Chipsets
Note This tool does not support any older platforms or chipsets, such as the Intel® 4 Series Chipset or Intel® 3 Series Chipset families.
Which languages and operating systems do you support?Currently, only English is supported. We have support for the following operating systems:
  • Windows XP* 32-bit SP2 and higher
  • Windows Vista* 32-bit and 64-bit; SP2 and higher
  • Windows 7* 32-bit and 64-bit
What are the system requirements to use this tool? You must run this tool on an Intel® 5 Series Chipset PC (see above) with the following software installed:
  • Microsoft* .NET framework 3.5 or higher
  • Intel® Management Engine Interface (Intel® MEI) driver (if applicable for your system)
Note You must also have administrator privileges or run the program as administrator.
Where can I send feedback on the tool? Send comments to IntelMEVerificationUtilityFeedback@intel.com.
What does this utility not check for? The utility doesn't perform any hardware tests or extensive firmware/BIOS checks. It doesn't verify that all the Intel® ME firmware and BIOS code are configured or operating correctly, as it only checks for proper communication. This communication is a good indication of a healthy Intel® ME subsystem state, but it may not guarantee that the Intel® ME or BIOS is fully operational.
