Why does my Platform Designer window just flash and disappear?

    Description

    Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Edition software version 17.1 update2 and earlier, you may see that the Platform Designer window just flash and disappear when you click on it. You will also see a <error>.log files will display the fatal error below:

        # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

        #  EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x0000000064886adf, pid=8624, tid=2252

        # JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (8.0_05-b13) (build 1.8.0_05-b13)

        # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (25.5-b02 mixed mode windows-amd64 compressed oops)

        # Problematic frame:

        # C  [msvcr100.dll 0x36adf]

    This is due to a god-mode shortcut being used on your machine that is conflicting with the Java Runtime Environment.

    Resolution

    To work around the problem, remove the god-mode shortcut folder from your machine.
