To perform a SignalProbe compilation:

1. To create SignalProbe pins, follow these steps:

   1. Compile your design. SignalProbe requires a post-fit netlist.

   2. On the Tools menu, click SignalProbe Pins.

   3. Click Add in the SignalProbe Pins dialog box to open the Add SignalProbe Pin dialog box.

   4. Browse the Source node name to open the Node Finder.

   5. In the Filter list of the Node Finder, select SignalProbe, then click List to generate a list of nodes.

   6. Select a node in the Nodes Found list and add it to the Selected Nodes list with the > button. Click OK.

   7. Click OK to exit the Node Finder and  view or modify the node settings in the Add SignalProbe Pin dialog box.

   8. Click OK to exit the Add SignalProbe Pin dialog box and view or modify the node settings in the SignalProbe Pin dialog box.

   9. To add a new SignalProbe source node name assignment to the pin, or change the existing SignalProbe node name assignment name for the pin, specify a new, unique name for the SignalProbe node in the SignalProbe Pin name box.

   10. To add a new SignalProbe source signal to the pin, or change the existing SignalProbe source signal for the pin, specify the signal name in the Source box.

   11. To use register pipelining to register a SignalProbe signal with a clock and one or more registers:

   8. 1. In the Clock box, specify the clock name.

      2. In the Registers box, specify the number of registers to insert before the output of the SignalProbe pin.

   12. Click OK to exit the Add SignalProbe Pin dialog box and view or modify the node settings in the SignalProbe Pin dialog box.

   Note: You can only add one source node name at a time. Repeat steps 1c through 1l for each SignalProbe source node name assignment.

   13. Click Start Check & Save All Netlist Changes.

   Important: If a you do not specify a SignalProbe source, then only the pin assignments— pin reservation, location, and I/O standard information— are written to the Quartus II Settings File (.qsf). Engineering change orders (ECOs) are not created. If you use the Node Finder to specify the SignalProbe source signal name, you must specify the SignalProbe filter in the Node Finder.

2. To enable or disable pins for SignalProbe compilation, follow these steps:

   Note: A pin must have a name before you can specify it as a SignalProbe pin.

   1. On the Tools menu, click SignalProbe Pins.

   2. To enable or disable individual pins as SignalProbe pins, select the pin(s) you want to enable or disable and turn on or off SignalProbe enable, and then click Start Check & Save All Netlist Changes.
      
      or
      
      To enable or disable all assigned pins as SignalProbe pins, click Enable All or Disable All.

3. To start SignalProbe compilation, on the Processing menu, point to Start and then click Start SignalProbe Compilation.
    

   Note: If you perform a full compilation, SignalProbe pins do not appear in the netlist. To add SignalProbe pins to the netlist, you must enable all SignalProbe pins and then perform a SignalProbe compilation.

4. To view the timing results for supported device(Arria V, Cyclone family, MAX II, Stratix family)  families, view the SignalProbe Report.
