1. On the View menu, point to Utility Windows, and then click Node Finder.

2. To limit the search results to nodes that meet specified criteria, in the Filter list, specify one of the Altera-provided filters or a custom filter. To create a custom filter, follow these steps:

   1. Click Show More Search Options.

   2. Click Customize.

   3. In the Customize Filter dialog box, click New.

   4. In the New Custom Filter dialog box, if you want to use settings from an existing custom filter or an Altera-provided filter, select the settings name in the Copy settings from filter list. 

   5. In the New Customize Filter dialog box, specify a name and the settings for the new filter.

   6. Click OK.

3. To further limit the search results, follow these steps:

   1. In the Named box, enter a node name, partial node name, and/or wildcard character(s).

   2. In the Look in box, specify the search hierarchy path.

   3. To include the subentities of the hierarchy you entered, turn on Include subentities.

   4. To view the hierachy levels of nodes in the Nodes Found list, turn on Hierarchy view.

4. To start the node name search, click List.

1. On the View menu, point to Utility Windows, and then click Node Finder.

2. Perform a node name search to find the node name you want to use in an editor, file, or window.

3. Use drag and drop or the Copy and Paste commands to assign the node to an area on the device, or create an assignment using the node in the following editors, windows, or files:

1. • Pin Planner

   • LogicLock Regions window

   • Design Partitions window

   • SignalTap II File (.stp)

You can also use the Locate commands to find the node in the following editors, windows, or files:

1. • Assignment Editor

   • Pin Planner

   • Chip Planner

   • Technology Map Viewer

   • Resource Property Editor

   • RTL Viewer

   • Design File
