Navigating the Project Hierarchy |
The Project Navigator allows you to view a representation of the project hierarchy, files, IP components, and design units. Top-level entities are available for viewing, but sub-entities of a top-level entity do not appear until you compile or simulate your design.
You can view the project information and
properties of individual entities in the project hierarchy. An entity
designated as a design partition is displayed with a partition icon (
). Files created with the IP
Catalog are identified in the
project hierarchy with a wand icon (
).
To view the project hierarchy:
If necessary, perform analysis and elaboration, or fully compile the design.
To open the Project Navigator, on the View menu, point to Utility Windows, and then click Project Navigator.
In the Project Navigator, click the Hierarchy tab.
Click the + icon to expand the top-level design entity and display the lower-level entities.
To locate the source information of an entity, right-click the entity, point to Locate, and then click Locate in Design File.
To open the design file of the "parent" entity (the entity one hierarchy level above the lower-level entity), on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Up.
To open the design file where an instance of an entity is defined, select the entity instance in the design file. Then, on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Down.
To open the design file of the top-level design entity, on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Project Top.
To print the project hierarchy, right-click an entity on the Hierarchy tab, and then click Print Hierarchy.

Note: The Print dialog box does not appear when you click the Print Hierarchy command; the file is immediately sent to the printer. When you print, the information you see is a text representation of the information in the Hierarchy tab; no graphical information appears. |
If necessary, perform analysis and elaboration, or fully compile the design.
To open the Project Navigator, on the View menu, point to Utility Windows, and then click Project Navigator.
In the Project Navigator, click the Hierarchy tab.
Click the + icon to expand the top-level design entity and display the lower-level entities.
To locate the source information of an entity, right-click the entity, point to Locate, and then click Locate in Design File.
To open the design file of the "parent" entity (the entity one hierarchy level above the lower-level entity), on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Up.
To open the design file where an instance of an entity is defined, select the entity instance in the design file. Then, on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Down.
To open the design file of the top-level design entity, on the Project menu, point to Hierarchy, and then click Project Top.
To print the project hierarchy, right-click any entity on the Hierarchy tab, and then click Print Hierarchy.

In the Project Navigator, click the Design Units tab.
Click the + icon for each design unit to display the corresponding design file.
To view and upgrade IP components:
If necessary, perform analysis and elaboration, or fully compile the design.
To open the Project Navigator, on the View menu, point to Utility Windows, and then click Project Navigator.
In the Project Navigator, click the IP Components tab.
Click the + icon for each IP component entity to display lower-level entities.
To locate the source information of an IP component, right-click the IP component, point to Locate, and then click Locate in Design File.
To upgrade outdated components, right-click the IP component, and then click Upgrade IP Component.
Select the IP component you want to upgrade, and the click Upgrade.
To modify the IP in the IP Catalog, or Qsys if a Qsys component is selected, right-click the IP component, and then click Edit in Parameter Editor.
In the IP Catalog, modify the IP, and then click Finish, or in Qsys, select the IP cores you want to update in the Upgrade IP Cores dialog box, and then click Upgrade.

In the Project Navigator, click the Hierarchy, File, Design Unit, or IP Components tab.
Click the + icon on the Hierarchy tab to expand the top-level entity.
Right-click an entity, file, design unit, or IP component for which you want to view the properties, and then click Properties.
