Quanta Computer Incorporated (TWSE: 2382) is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic hardware. It is the largest manufacturer of notebook computers in the world. Its customers include Apple Inc., Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Alienware, Amazon.com, Casper, Cisco, Fujitsu, Gericom, Lenovo, LG, Maxdata, MPC, Research In Motion, Sharp Corporation, Siemens AG, Sony, Sun Microsystems, Toshiba, Verizon Wireless, and Vizio. It was founded by Barry Lam in 1988. Lam continues to head the company. With leading technology and strong R&D, Quanta has become a leader in hi-tech markets. Besides creation in notebook computers, Quanta has extended its businesses into enterprise network systems, home entertainment, mobile communication, automotive electronics, and digital home markets. The company also designs, manufactures and markets GPS systems, including handheld GPS’, in-car GPS’, Bluetooth GPS’ and GPS’ with other positioning technologies. Quanta R&D Complex (QRDC), inaugurated in late 2005, is a symbol of Quanta's long-term deep-rooted investment in Taiwan. Quanta Computer also has two branches in Shanghai, China and Chongqing, China. Quanta Computer has over 70,000 employees all over the world, and just for the main factory in Taiwan, Quanta Computer has over 5,000 employees, they are mostly programmers and engineers. As an intelligent building, QRDC has three functions: R&D, humanity and art, as well as education and leisure activities. It includes laboratories, an art performance hall, and a museum. So far, the library, art gallery, gym, and swimming pool have been completed and operational. Capable of accommodating up to 7,000 employees, QRDC is unprecedented in the information industry in Taiwan in terms of architectural designs, space planning, intelligent functions and size.
