In a Nature Comment article titled “The technology underpinning 5G,” Vida Ilderem, vice president of Intel Labs and director of Wireless Communications Research at Intel, outlines innovations that will be required to unleash the full potential of next-generation wireless communication.

She writes:

“Wireless networks are expected to support many applications, such as autonomous systems and augmented/virtual reality. These diverse applications will require dense deployment of wireless networks in order to address the demands for more capacity and throughput, ushering in the era of 5G and providing new opportunities for technology innovation across the computing and connectivity landscape. Innovations from system level to core technologies are needed to meet these diverse and divergent requirements.”
