4.2.2. FPGA AI Suite Operating System Prerequisites

FPGA AI Suite supports installation into a containerized environment or into an operating system environment as follows:

The FPGA AI Suite Docker* container is intended to run with a Docker* client running on a Microsoft* Windows* system.

The FPGA AI Suite Docker* container provides the fastest and simplest FPGA AI Suite installation and configuration to, so you can get your development started quickly.

For information about using the FPGA AI Suite Docker* container, refer to Using the FPGA AI Suite Docker Image.
Ubuntu* operating system: Ubuntu* operating systems are supported only natively.

Ubuntu in a WSL 2 environment is not supported. For installation in a Windows* environment, use either the FPGA AI Suite Docker* container or a native Windows* installation.
Red Hat* Enterprise Linux* operating system: —
Windows* 11 operating system

Windows* installations of FPGA AI Suite have the following limitations:

  • FPGA AI Suite can be installed only through the Quartus® Prime installer.
  • Only the FPGA AI Suite compiler and IP generation tools are supported.
  • For FPGA AI Suite design examples, bitstream compilation is supported only for design examples that are purely Quartus® Prime projects as follows:
    • Hostless DDR-Free design example
    • JTAG design example
  • The dla_benchmark command and the FPGA AI Suite OpenVINO™ runtime are not supported on Windows.
Tip:

For most of your initial FPGA AI Suite development requirements, the Docker* image is ideal. Install FPGA AI Suite on full operating system environments only if you have more complex requirements or development environment restrictions.

The FPGA AI Suite design examples might also have their own operating system requirements. For details, refer to Installing FPGA AI Suite Design Example Prerequisites.

Important:

The PCIe design examples require specific versions operating systems. This is required only to use the specific PCIe design example listed. For the operating system requirements for the PCIe design examples, refer to the following table:
