Intel and The Coalition* Collaborate on Gears Tactics*

Intel and The Coalition* partnered throughout the development of Gears Tactics* to create an action-packed, turn-based strategy game that scales seamlessly across PC hardware configurations, from thin and light notebooks to ultra-powerful desktops, and those yet to come such as those featuring the Intel Xe architecture. The Coalition worked with Intel engineers to enable new cutting-edge features like Variable Rate Shading (VRS) which reduces the pixel complexity of the scene, improving performance by up to 15%, without major sacrifices to visual quality.

Gears of War* is an acclaimed third person shooter franchise. That started on Xbox* and built a passionate and strong community. New to the franchise is Gears Tactics*. The first turn-based strategy game set in the Gears of War universe. Through the development of Gears Tactics, The Coalition has partnered with Intel on optimizing the game adding new cutting edge features such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS). VRS is used to reduce the pixel complexity of a scene without major sacrifices to visual quality. Working with the Intel engineering team we've been able to improve performance but up to 15 percent. With Tactics we wanted to bring the Gears look and feel to new audiences and to a new genre. To do this we focused first on making a great PC game. The game seamlessly scales from thin and light notebooks to ultra-powerful desktops and device configurations yet to come such as those featuring the Intel Xe graphics architecture debuting this year. We are very excited to partner with Intel on the Xe architecture.
