To help media developers deliver brilliant, immersive video that transcodes fast and with high quality, Intel just released an update to Intel® Media SDK for Windows* (2018 R2) with new and enhanced features. What's so special about this tool? It supports device to cloud usages from content capture by IoT devices (such as smart cameras, cameras in drones, robots, etc.), to clients and network video recorders, to servers in data centers/used in cloud/servers that distribute content to the internet or client devices. The SDK also includes HEVC codecs and features to manage bandwidth constraints. See more details below.

Intel Media SDK 2018 R2 New & Enhanced Features

  • New capabilities help scale the HEVC software encoder across multiple cores for faster, efficient transcoding.
  • Support for Adaptive Long Term Reference (LTR) for H.264 encoder via user defined bitrate control (BRC) brings high quality video with more coding efficiency for online gaming, video conferencing and other similar usages.
  • Support for Motion Compensated Temporal Filter (MCTF) for video processing removes noise of input stream by referring to the temporal motion information to improve coding efficiency, resulting in better video quality. This feature can be applied to noisy input streams caused by poor sensor quality and background light.
  • QP enhancements improve visual quality of 10-bit HEVC software/GACC encoder, and this feature applies to all BRC mode.
