Academic Hands-on Workshop, Chicago

Students and professors representing eleven Midwest universities, along with Intel experts and special guests from Accenture and Argonne National Labs, gathered for a full-day workshop in Chicago. This workshop showcased oneAPI technologies and discussed how heterogeneous computing is changing the world.

Dr. Venkat Vishwanath, data science team lead at Argonne National Laboratory, started the day with an engaging presentation on Aurora and the benefits of oneAPI in this herculean project. Ben Odom, a oneAPI evangelist with Intel, introduced the students to SYCL* program structure and to machine learning. Ending the day, Harish Natarahjan, senior manager at Accenture, spoke to students about career opportunities for computer science students. Students also participated in a panel session with three Intel® Student Ambassadors for oneAPI for plenty of Q&A.

Partnering with professors to create opportunities beyond the classroom is a key component of the Intel® Academic Program for oneAPI. The program enables the next generation of developers to engage with real-world applications of their course content, meet developers who are leading the charge in heterogeneous computing, and network with peers and future employers.
