Challenge

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the UK’s 200+ NHS Trusts that brings together over 13,000 NHS staff working across multiple sites and is something of a digital pioneer. The trust delivers over 100 different clinical services across their 10 sites serving a core population of more than 500,000 people. Intel and UHBW have been in close partnership in recent years to help adopt the latest computing innovations that support UHBW’s digital transformation agenda within the NHS. This transformation has required a high level of collaboration and training among their IT team and they sought a solution that was flexible, easy to use, and could be more easily scaled and adapted to potential future use cases.

Solution

The IT team evaluated several alternatives before deciding on the Intel Unite® solution. They appreciated the simple, intuitive user interface, as well as its device- and OS-agnostic software. The wireless connectivity removes the need for cables, dongles, or adapters—and shared surfaces—and, along with the BYOD capability, allows the participants to present from nearly any device in seconds. The Intel Unite solution provides the centralized manageability and the enterprise security required in healthcare environments. The open architecture, publicly available SDK, and a library of the off-the-shelf apps that can quickly expand capabilities convinced them it would deliver the flexibility to grow and adapt the solution over time.

Results

The trust’s initial use case for the Intel Unite solution was IT collaboration and training. They have been happy with the results and are planning to add the Intel Unite app for Microsoft Teams to improve collaboration with remote colleagues. But the trust is also planning to evaluate the possible expansion of Intel Unite into healthcare use cases, including the Intel Unite app for Patient Sight, which allows caregivers to connect with patients virtually using high resolution audio and video.

Intel Unite Solution

Available by subscription, the Intel Unite solution is a flexible, easy-to-use way to deliver a more secure, manageable, high-quality collaboration experience.

  • Easy to learn and use. The user interface is intuitive and the same, simple instructions apply across devices and operating systems.
  • Fast join. Quickly join a session using a 6-digit PIN, ultrasonic join (no pin required), or URL. No cords to pass or dongles to find and connect and no shared surfaces.
  • Rich collaboration. Share a wide variety of content in high resolution and boost ideation and productivity with built-in tools and off-the-shelf integrations.
  • BYOD tech. Participants can use the devices they are familiar with, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, or Linux.
  • More easily deployed and managed. It works with your existing infrastructure, as well as and devices and peripherals you may already have.
  • More security. Data is end-to-end encrypted and stays on the local network, while multiple access and session controls provide additional protection.
