bluechip Computer AG provides small- and midsize-businesses (SMBs) and public sector organizations with client computing deployments tailor-made to meet their specific needs. With Intel® NUC Elements, bluechip can support these custom deployments with greater speed and efficiency than it could previously. Ultimately, helping it to differentiate its offering from those of much larger, global competitors.

Challenge

bluechip’s challenge has always been how to provide customers with tailor-made client computing deployments and remain competitive against much larger, better resourced IT companies.

Solution

Using Intel® NUC Elements bluechip can design, build, and service tailor-made client computing deployments easily, quickly, and cost effectively, while stretching the lifecycle of Intel® products.

Results

bluechip is now able to maintain its strong customer focus and differentiate its offering from those of much larger multinational IT companies with far greater resources.

Keeping Pace with Large Multinational IT Organizations

bluechip is a leading manufacturer and distributor of client computing devices and peripherals. Typically, it serves SMBs and public sector organizations in the German-speaking DACH region, and increasingly beyond.

The company’s heritage lies in high-performance consumer gaming devices. Today, it offers a wide variety of business-focused client computing products either under its own bluechip brand or distributor brands. These devices include workstations, PCs, mini PCs, all-in-ones, notebooks, ruggedized notebooks, and special solutions for the healthcare, manufacturing, and education market segments.

bluechip’s mission is to achieve the greatest customer satisfaction. As Thomas Stolze, product manager, clients and mobile, at bluechip, says: “Customer satisfaction is the core of a sustainable business, from which everything else then arises.”

To achieve this goal, bluechip offers devices and services that are tailor-made to each customer’s specific needs. “Standard business results in standard prices that don’t allow a lot of margins in a competitive market like ours,” explains Stolze. “We survive from being able to do something better. Even if it’s just little things like labeling or imaging. Anything that differentiates us from the competition and justifies different prices. All too often, IT companies want to make it easier for themselves. But the right way is to make it unique for the customer.”

The challenge for bluechip is how to maintain this strong customer focus and remain competitive against large multinational IT companies. “We’re much smaller than the large players. We have different purchasing conditions, fewer human resources, and more limitations when it comes to market access,” says Stolze. “Here’s where Intel NUC Elements have been a real game changer.”

Introducing Intel® NUC Elements

Intel NUC Elements offer an entirely new way to design, build, and service custom client computing deployments with minimal research and development time. Part of the Intel NUC Element Family, Intel NUC Compute Elements bring together the latest Intel® Core™ processors, memory, storage, and I/O into one flexible, modular, and easy-to-integrate system-on-a-card.

Intel NUC Compute Elements, along with Intel NUC Board and Chassis Elements, offer systems builders the flexibility of modular computing.

The Intel® NUC Element Family Includes:

Simplified Stock Management, Deployment, and Support

bluechip can now use the same Intel NUC Compute Element as the starting point for each of its tailor-made deployments, across multiple form factors from workstations and PCs through to all-in-ones and notebooks. This capability brings bluechip many advantages. “Previously stock management was very difficult,” says Stolze. “I would order an all-in-one system with a special chipset generation and then Intel would bring out a new one a few months later. I would then have to sell out the old stock so customers could take advantage of the latest technology. I am able to use existing barebone stock with the latest generation of Intel NUC Compute Elements so customers can take advantage of the latest technology. We can also easily upgrade specific customer configurations to newer generations of Intel NUC Compute Elements.”

The Intel NUC Compute Element also enables bluechip to help its customers quickly and easily deploy large fleets of multiple form factor devices. Previously bluechip would have had to create multiple images for each form factor so customer admin teams could install multiple devices. With one SKU Intel NUC Compute Element, bluechip needs to create just one image to support admin teams in rolling out multiple form factors, enabling customers to get up and running more quickly and with less hassle. This capability is particularly appealing to organizations with small IT teams or for public sector organizations putting out large tenders. Troubleshooting and fault resolution is also much easier with Intel NUC Compute Elements. “Previously with each form factor running on different CPUs, memory, and storage, each with multiple configurations, troubleshooting was long and laborious. We had to investigate many parts and variables to find the root of a problem,” says Stolze. With Intel NUC Compute Elements, we can send a one-time spare part that’s quick to replace. We can get customers up and running again in rapid time.”

Increased Customer Satisfaction

Intel NUC Compute Elements are also benefiting bluechip’s customers. High availability of stock and ease of integration means that devices can be quickly and easily put together and deployed, and faults repaired more quickly. Ultimately, faster turnarounds help to increase customer satisfaction.

Also, the modular, forward-compatible approach means that customers can upgrade certain NUC models to the latest performance processors for less. Rather than having to pay for a completely new device, they can just replace the Intel NUC Compute Element. In some instances, less technology waste can benefit the environment, as well as the bottom line.

Remaining Competitve Into the Future

Thanks to the flexible, modular, and forward-compatible nature of Intel NUC Elements, bluechip can design, build, and service tailor-made client computing deployments easily, quickly, and cost effectively, while stretching the lifecycle of Intel products. As a result, bluechip can maintain its strong customer focus and remain competitive against much larger multinational IT companies with far greater resources.

Moving forward, bluechip and Intel plan to build on their long-standing collaborative relationship. Intel will continue to provide bluechip with early access to its product roadmap, while bluechip will provide Intel with insight on where the market is headed.
