Social impact to Intel is really about empowering all of us as employees to apply our time, talent, and technology. In 2017, the Intel Foundation established a new team around rebuilding communities that could potentially apply to disaster response scenarios.

When it comes to Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria devastated the island, Intel Foundation looked at opportunities where Intel could provide value in rebuilding communities across the island. We developed a concept of a tech pod-- technology pod.

It's a protected, portable, hand-carried satellite communication that offers the ability to produce a Wi-Fi signal as well. If you don't have access to power and communication, it can mean the difference between life and death. Something simple like this is going to save them months and weeks to be able to go out and communicate with the rest of the world again.

Going forward, we have our proven technology ready to go for the next disaster when and where it occurs. And we also have built a team of people that are familiar with the situation specifically in Puerto Rico, but also the skills and expertise and understanding of what it means to respond to a disaster and try to help rebuild communities.

If you want to make an impact, you have to understand the needs, apply the right expertise and skills, and see it through. Don't do what's easy. Do what will make an impact.
