Many businesses employ media transcoding applications, which decode, reformat, and re-encode files into common formats that are easier to work with. Transcoding can be a very compute-intensive process, so it’s important to do this work on a platform that can carry out these tasks quickly. GCP offers many VM solutions for those running media transcoding workloads in the cloud. To help understand the performance differences among three such VM types, Intel performed benchmark testing that measured the rate of frames per second (FPS) each could handle.
