How to enable EAP-FAST authentication on Microsoft Windows 7*

For Microsoft Windows 7*, the native Wi-Fi connection management utility is referred to as WLAN AutoConfig. EAP-FAST is a proprietary 802.11X authentication method from Cisco Corporation. To use it on Microsoft Windows 7, and to retain the WLAN AutoConfig user interface, you’ll need software from Cisco. This software is referred to as the Cisco module, or plug-in, and is automatically installed when you use Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software.

There are several Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software downloads that contain the necessary Cisco module. You’ll need a download file which contains both the device driver and the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. A download file which contains only the device drivers will not provide you with the Cisco module necessary to support EAP-FAST.

From the Intel Download Center, you’ll need to choose the wireless networking download package that best matches your Intel WiFi product, desired release version, and Microsoft Windows 7 OS. An example is given in the figure below. In this case, the user has chosen a download package for the end-customer, Microsoft Windows 7*, 32-bit, version 13.5.0 for the Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 Wi-Fi adapter. The proper file to download that will have the Cisco module for EAP-FAST is ICS_s32.exe. This file can be identified by the information in the Detailed Description box.

Once the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software has been installed, you’ll have the option to choose EAP-FAST as the network authentication method when creating wireless profiles. See the figure below to observe the configuration options that become available after the installation.
