Voltage Requirements


The processors are designed to operate at the voltages provided in the table below. It is important to verify that the motherboard explicitly supports the specific processor (by stepping and speed).

The VID specification for Intel® Xeon® processors is different from that of previous generations and is supported by the VRM 9.0 DC-DC Converter Design Guidelines. The VID specification for Intel Xeon processors MP is also different from that of previous generations and is supported by the VRM 9.1 DC-DC Converter Design Guidelines. The voltage set by the VID pins is the maximum voltage allowed by the processor. A minimum voltage is provided in Table 1 and changes with frequency. This allows processors running at a higher frequency to have a relaxed minimum voltage specification. The specifications have been set such that one voltage regulator can work with all supported frequencies.

Note: Mixing processors operating at different VID settings (voltages) are not supported and will not be validated by Intel.
