System Memory

System memory features
The board has two 240-pin DDR2 DIMM sockets and supports the following memory features:

  • DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • Unbuffered, single-sided, or double-sided DIMMs
  • 4 GB maximum total system memory
  • Minimum total system memory: 256 MB
  • Non-ECC DIMMs
  • Serial presence detect
  • Memory voltage: 1.8V
  • DDR2 800 MHz and DDR2 667 MHz DIMMs

Because of passively-cooled thermal constraints, system memory must have an operating temperature rating of 85°C. The board is designed to be passively cooled in a properly ventilated chassis. Chassis venting locations are recommended above the system memory area for maximum heat dissipation effectiveness.

To be fully compliant with applicable DDR2 SDRAM memory specifications, the board should have DIMMs that support the serial presence detect (SPD) data structure. This allows the BIOS to read the SPD data and program the chipset to accurately configure memory settings for optimum performance. If non-SPD memory is installed, performance and reliability can be impacted or the DIMMs might not function under the designated frequency.
