Error: "The IGFXTRAY.EXE File is Linked to Missing Export"

Symptom(s):

  • Error: "The IGFXTRAY.EXE file is linked to missing export HCCUTILS.DLL:IsDisplayValid."
  • Error: "The HKCMD.EXE file is link to missing export HCCUTILS.DLL:IsDisplayValid."

Cause:

These errors can appear when starting Windows* after you revert to a previous version of the graphics drivers. For instance, this can happen when going from a 6.x driver to a 5.x graphics driver.

Solution:

  1. Select and copy the text between the rows of asterisks below:

  2. Paste the text into Notepad and save it to C:\ as "fixreg.inf". Be sure to select Save as type: All Files in the Save dialog box.

  3. Navigate to C:\ in Windows* Explorer.

  4. Right-click the fixreg.inf file and choose Install. No confirmation will be given.

  5. Reboot the system and the errors will be gone.
