Every purchased watt of energy should go to business computing instead of wasted as heat in the data center. Intel® Intelligent Power Technology uses integrated power gates to individually reduce idling cores to near-zero power and intelligently cut idle power consumption up to 50%.1 These power gates can be manually controlled or set to automatically adapt processors and memory to the most efficient power levels that meet workload requirements without impacting performance. Not only does this accelerate applications and business processes, the estimated cost savings from minimized energy usage alone can pay for new servers in a matter of months.2

Maximizing efficiency with instrumentation

Just as a pilot reads instruments to monitor the functions of an aircraft, the Intel® Intelligent Power Node Manager utilizes instrumentation available on the Intel® Xeon® processor E3 series, Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series, and Intel® Xeon® processor E7 series to monitor, report, and cap system power to make the most of every watt consumed. This system-level technology provides a foundation for rack, data center, and facility-level management while improving data center energy efficiency and resource flexibility.
