Intel Stresses New Selling Points in Server Chip

This editor’s pick is a report from the Wall Street Journal describing the highlights of a live press event announcing the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 product family. The new processor has special circuitry and internal instructions that pack more computing power and significantly improve the overall performance of servers. Some 400 hardware systems from well-known manufacturers such as IBM, Dell, HP, and Silicon Graphics are already designed to use the new processor. Diane Bryant, the Intel vice president recently appointed as general manager of the group that developed the chip, emphasized the versatility of the processor in data center infrastructure, saying, “It is a storage solution and a networking solution.”
