Applying technology to environmental issues
Technology gives individuals, families, companies, and governments information they can use to be more sustainable in their homes and across industries—helping to reduce the environmental footprint of cities and countries.
We continue to explore opportunities to design, develop, and deliver new technologies to address sustainability challenges. We lead initiatives and apply our passion for innovation to solve complex environmental issues such as climate change and natural resource conservation.
We empower the world to address long-term sustainability
challenges across industries.
Innovation builds understanding
Data collection, analysis, modeling, and 3D simulation are just a few of the ways Intel® technology is being used to understand the complex environmental issues we face. Armed with richer data, researchers are developing whole-system energy management solutions used in electricity grids, homes, commercial buildings, water systems, transportation, agriculture, and more.
Explore environmental solutions:
Decisions lead to action
Technology can connect people, amplify voices, foster innovation, and make it easy for people to act on their ideas.
We work with leading scientific institutions to develop high-performance computational models, sensors, and other decision-support systems. These are leading to new advancements in climate science, more accurate weather predictions, better urban and rural water management, and more.
See technology as a catalyst for action:
Operations and efficiency improvement
We help people and organizations optimize their operations, increase their productivity, and conserve resources. By enabling better products and disruptive new business models, Intel technology is making business more environmentally friendly.
Explore applications across industries:
Collaborating for a more sustainable future
Intel works with a many different organizations, customers, and businesses to find and lead industry-wide environmental initiatives. Programs such as the Climate Savers Computing initiative that we developed with Google and World Wildflife Fund help minimize the footprint of the computing industry and encourage environmentally responsible computing and business practices.
Intel also founded and co-chairs the Digital Energy and Sustainability Solutions Campaign (DESSC). This coalition brings together information and communications technologies (ICT) companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and trade associations that advocate public policies that will promote the enabling role that ICT plays in improving our environment and driving long-term economic growth.
Intel Energy and Sustainability Lab
Our researchers are developing whole-system energy management solutions for commercial buildings, homes, data centers, and utility distribution networks. We are also working with leading scientific institutions to develop high-performance computational models to enable more accurate climate and weather predictions.
In 2011, our Intel Labs research organization created the Intel Energy and Sustainability Lab (Intel ESL). Intel ESL is based at Intel’s Ireland site and will drive Intel’s research agenda in the application of IT to enable a high-tech, low-carbon economy.
