Description
Communications Service Providers (CoSPs) are increasingly under pressure to deliver more services at lower costs. Deploying high-performance services using traditional architectures often requires costly, proprietary hardware and software systems. Intel presents a reference architecture for a virtual Broadband Network Gateway (vBNG) to deliver scalable, efficient, and cost-effective BNG functionality using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers powered by 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors. The Intel reference architecture shows it can achieve up to 710 Gbps throughput while delivering up to 14 percent average power savings and cut peak power demand up to 25 percent in a single, dual-socket COTS server, according to Intel benchmarks.
The vBNG reference architecture uses advanced networking solutions based on Intel® processors and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), employing modern, cloud-native design principles to achieve next-level performance, power, efficiency, and network automation.
