Why are my assignments ignored for targets in imported or preserved partitions?

Environment

    Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 20.4 and earlier, you may see that assignments are ignored when they target constructs (pins, ports, etc) from preserved or imported partitions. This problem occurs when any instance assignment from the base compile uses a wildcard and the partition is then preserved or imported.

Resolution

To work around this problem, convert the wildcarded assignments to non-wildcarded assignments by specifying all the matching targets. Then recompile the partition that was preserved or imported.

This problem is fixed starting with the Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 21.3.
