What is the granularity of Stratix phase-locked loop (PLL) (enhanced and fast) phase shift and how do I set it in the altpll MegaWizard® Plug-In Manager?

Environment

    PLL
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description To calculate the precision of the phase shifting in degrees, use the following equation:

45 degrees ÷st-scale counter value

Therefore, the maximum step size is 45, and smaller steps are possible depending on the multiplication and division ratio necessary on the output counter port. For example, if post-scale counter G0 is 2, then the smallest phase-shift step is 22.5 degrees.

The altpll MegaWizard Plug-In Manager shows up/down buttons for the clock phase-shift setting on each PLL output. These up/down buttons cycle through the phase-shift settings that are possible with the default M and post-scale dividers the MegaWizard Plug-In Manager has chosen for your particular frequency and multiplication. For example, if you enter 125 MHz with ×, MegaWizard Plug-In Manager shows 15 degree increments on the phase shift when clicking up/down (15, 30, 45). If you manually enter a number into the phase-shift field instead of using the up/down buttons, you can get other granularities of shift. For example, you can override the incremental value by entering 7.5 degrees. The MegaWizard Plug-In Manager verifies this value and uses M = 6 and G0 = 6. You could type 10 and the MegaWizard Plug-In Manager validates that 9 degrees is possible by using M = 5 and G0 = 5.

In a future version of the MegaWizard Plug-In Manager, the up/down buttons will cycle through all possible values of shift across all M and post-scale divider solutions.
