Description
This error may be seen in the Quartus® II software PowerPlay Power Analysis tools version 10.0 and later when a Signal Activity File (.saf) generated by Mentor Graphics® Modelsim® or Questasim® tool is specified as a Power Input File for initializing toggle rates during power analysis.
The Quartus II PowerPlay Power Analyser only supports the folowing input file formats for Signal Activity Data:
- Value change dump (.vcd) files
- Signal Activity Files (.saf) created by the Quartus II Simulator*.
* The Quartus II Simulator is no longer supported and is not present in the Quartus II software version 10.1 or later.
This problem scheduled to be resolved in a future version of the Quartus II software.
Resolution
To workaround this issue a .vcd format signal activity file should be generated, and used with the Quartus II PowerPlay Power Analyser. See the Signal Activities Data Sources section of the PowerPlay Power Analysis chapter of the Quartus II handbook for more information.
