Error (329006): Some pins have illegal board trace models

Environment

    Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to the global setting is not supported in Intel® Quartus Prime® Pro Edition version 18.1.1 onward, when you write the following setting
in QSF i.e. set_global_assignment -name <instance name> "<section identifier>" -<value>

You will receive the error as titled with sub message as below:

Error (20403): Global setting for <instance name> is not supported. Please use this setting with pin assignments.

 

Example settings which causes the error:

set_global_assignment -name OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_NEAR_END_VMEAS "HALF VCCIO" -rise

set_global_assignment -name OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_NEAR_END_VMEAS "HALF VCCIO" -fall

set_global_assignment -name OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_FAR_END_VMEAS "HALF SIGNAL SWING" -rise

set_global_assignment -name OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_FAR_END_VMEAS "HALF SIGNAL SWING" -fall

 

<instance name> could be from the list below:

OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_NEAR_END_VMEAS

OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_FAR_END_VMEAS

Resolution

To avoid this problem, you must use set_instance_assignment by adding the specific instance assignment pin name instead of set_global_assignment.

For example:

set_instance_assignment -name OUTPUT_IO_TIMING_NEAR_END_VMEAS "HALF VCCIO" -to <pin name>
