When playing Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.4 or earlier with the Sodium performance mod, animated textures such as lava may display incorrect mipmap levels on some Intel graphics platforms.
Affected animated textures can appear to use a single frozen animation frame at distance, while the full-resolution texture continues to animate normally. This is most visible in the Nether when viewing lava lakes or other animated textures from farther away.
This behavior does not occur in the latest Minecraft version. The issue is therefore considered limited to older Minecraft versions, including 1.21.4 and earlier.
Update Minecraft to the latest available release.
For users who must remain on Minecraft 1.21.4 or earlier, disable mipmapping as a temporary visual workaround:
Open Options.
Select Video Settings.
Set Mipmap Levels to 0.
Apply the change and restart the game if necessary.
Disabling mipmapping avoids the affected rendering path, but it can reduce texture quality at distance and may increase visible texture aliasing.
For Minecraft 1.21.4 or earlier, this is a known issue on Intel Arc B-Series, Intel Arc A-Series and Intel Core Ultra processors (Series 2) . Check back later.
