Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000101772   |   Last Reviewed: 11/17/2025

Environment

Operating System

Windows 11* Family, Windows® 10 family

Description

When the display refresh rate is set above 60Hz (tested at 100Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz), the screen begins to flicker and stutter. The flickering typically manifests as the screen going black for a split second and then coming back, a loop that repeats continuously, making the system nearly unusable at higher refresh rates.

Resolution

Check the following:

  1. Ensure your graphics driver is up-to-date.
  2. Ensure that you are using a certified cable that can handle the bandwidth needed by the combination of high resolutions with high refresh rates. Not all the cables are built the same.
