Environment

Operating System

Windows 11* Family, Windows® 10 family

Description

Users may encounter an error when attempting to record using OBS Studio with the Intel® QuickSync H.264 encoder while selecting Intel® UHD Graphics 730 as the active GPU. The error message typically states: "An encoder error occurred while recording." This behavior can occur due to a driver-level incompatibility between OBS Studio and Intel® UHD Graphics when using the QuickSync H.264 encoder, particularly in hybrid GPU systems with both integrated and discrete graphics.

Resolution

Update the Intel® Graphics driver for the UHD Graphics 730 to the most recent version of the graphics driver.

Additional troubleshooting tips:

  • Ensure OBS is configured to run on the integrated GPU if using QuickSync.

  • Restart your system after each driver update.

  • Optionally, test recording with another external monitor connected to rule out hardware-related constraints in hybrid GPU setups.
