Turbo frequencies enable an Intel® Xeon® Processor to run faster than its base frequency when operating conditions such as power, temperature, and current are within specified limits. This feature, known as Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, allows cores to dynamically increase their clock speed to improve performance for both multithreaded and single-threaded workloads.
The availability and extent of turbo frequencies are influenced by factors such as the number of active cores, current and power consumption, and package temperature. Turbo frequencies are significant because they provide a way to enhance performance during demanding workloads, thereby improving system responsiveness and efficiency.
The Intel® Xeon®6 6300-series processors feature the following turbo frequencies based on the number of active cores:
Processor SKU | TDP (W) | Base Frequency (GHz) | Cores | Maximum Frequency* in GHz (+ x00 MHz over base frequency) by Active Cores |
---|---|---|---|---|
6369P | 95 | 3.3 | 8 | 5.7 |
6357P | 80 | 3.0 | 8 | 5.4 |
6353P | 65 | 2.7 | 8 | 5.4 |
6349P | 95 | 3.6 | 6 | 5.7 |
6337P | 80 | 3.5 | 6 | 5.3 |
6333P | 65 | 3.1 | 6 | 5.2 |
6325P | 55 | 3.5 | 4 | 5.2 |
6315P | 55 | 2.8 | 4 | 4.7 |
*Max Turbo Boost Frequency is calculated in increments of 100 MHz above the base frequency (+1 = +100 MHz, etc.).
Note | Max Turbo Boost Frequency may not be achieved when running AVX workloads. Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel® AVX) workloads are designed to achieve higher throughput for certain integer and floating point operations. These workloads utilize AVX instructions, which can stress the processor significantly. Due to varying power characteristics of processors, running AVX workloads might cause the parts to operate at lower than rated frequencies or prevent achieving maximum turbo frequencies with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0. This is because AVX workloads increase power consumption and thermal output, leading the processor to reduce frequencies to maintain power delivery specifications and ensure stability. |
