How to Identify Intel® Desktop Chipsets

The Intel® Chipset numbers generally starts with one (or two) letters followed by numbers.

For Intel® Desktop Chipsets, the first number that appears after the first letter refers to the chipset series.

Here are some examples:

Intel® Series Desktop Chipsets

  • Intel Chipsets W790, B760, H770, and Z790 have number 7 after the first letter hence they are Intel® 700 Series Desktop Chipsets.
  • Intel Chipsets W680, B660, H610, and Z690 have number 6 after the first letter hence they are Intel® 600 Series Desktop Chipsets.
  • Intel Chipsets W580, B560, H570, and Z590 have number 5 after the first letter hence they are Intel® 500 Series Desktop Chipsets.

Intel 600 Series Desktop Chipsets

Here is an example about comparing Z790 (Intel® 700 Series Desktop Chipset) with B660 (Intel® 600 Series Desktop Chipset).

Follow steps below.

  1. Go to Prooduct Specifications page.
  2. Enter z790 in the Search intel.com box, located upper-right corner.
  3. Click the chipset link from the search results.
  4. Click Add to Compare button.
  5. On the same window, type the second chipset, B660.
  6. Click the chipset link from the search results.
  7. Click Add to Compare button.
  8. Click Compare Products box, located bottom-center of the page.
  9. View the comparison results.
  10. Click Export comparison box to export the results to an excel file that will be downloaded to your download folder.
