How To Install or Update the Intel® NPU Driver

Description

The latest Intel® NPU Driver installer is available for download, or through Intel® Driver & Support Assistant.

If you encounter installation issues with older NPU driver versions that include a zip file, follow the instructions listed under resolution below.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to install older Intel® NPU Driver Zip file for applicable Intel® Core® Ultra Processors. Notice that the latest version of the driver includes an installer that does not require these steps. 

  1. Check if an NPU driver is already installed on your device.
    1. Right-click the Windows* start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Check if Intel® AI Boost is visible under Neural processors.

  2. Uninstall the NPU driver.
    1. In the Device Manager window, right-click  the Intel® AI Boost and select Uninstall Device.
    2. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device. box.
    3. Click Uninstall.
    4. Go to Device Manage and click Scan for Hardware Changes. Clicking once on the icon located at the top menu will reveal Other devices.

  3. Download the new driver.
    1. Download the latest NPU driver from Intel Download Center.
    2. Unpack the zip driver package downloaded. To unpack the .zip driver file, right-click the file and choose Extract All.

  4. Install the new NPU driver.
    1. Find PCI Device under Other Devices. Right-click it and select Update Driver.

    2. In the new window that appears, click Browse my computer for drivers and navigate to the location where the unpacked driver was saved.
    3. Make sure the Include subfolder is checked.

    4. If the driver installed correctly, you should see the following window saying Windows has successfully updated your drivers and the Device Manage should display your Intel® AI Boost driver under Neural processors.
