Description

The BMC interface LAN Port was changed to the discrete NIC card when added to the system. How do I verify the MAC Address for the Dedicated LAN Port for BMC and make sure this is the only one used for BMC traffic?

Resolution

When configuring a system with an Add-In Network Interface Card (NIC), if you wish to have the BMC only accessed through the onboard dedicated port, follow the steps below:

  1. To determine the dedicated management port MAC
    1. Check in BMC EWS under IPv4/6 Network for the interface with IPMI channel = 3 / NIC description = Dedicated.

    2. Check to utilize the IPMI tool with the command: sudo ipmitool lan print 3
  2. Assign the Static IP 0.0.0.0 to the Host LAN interface, leaving the Dedicated LAN configurated properly
    1. BIOS: Server Management -> BMC LAN Configuration
    2. BMC EWS: Found under the Configuration -> IPv4/6 Network Settings
