Content Type: Compatibility   |   Article ID: 000098960   |   Last Reviewed: 04/25/2025

Environment

Intel® Xeon® E Processors

Description

  • On Intel's website, it is mentioned that Intel Xeon E-series level chipsets have limited functionality when utilizing Intel VROC, specifically stating: Intel® Xeon® E (No Intel® VMD. Limited functionality supported).
  • Unable to find detailed documentation regarding these limitations and their potential implications for performance.

Resolution

Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) provides enterprise RAID solutions for both NVMe* and SATA drives for enterprise servers and workstations.

  • The Intel® VROC (VMD NVMe RAID) provides an enterprise RAID solution on platforms that support the Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD) technology.
  • The Intel® VROC (SATA RAID) provides an enterprise RAID solution for SATA devices connected to all SATA controllers via the Platform Control Hub (PCH) configured in RAID mode.

The Intel® VMD technology is not available in Intel® Xeon® E processors, therefore the Intel® VROC (VMD NVMe RAID) portion of the Intel® VROC package is not supported in Intel® Xeon® E processors. Only Intel® VROC (SATA RAID) is supported in Intel® Xeon® E processors.
