Error: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED When Playing Fortnite

Environment

HP Laptop 14-dq2xxx, Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics, OEM laptop, Fortnite, Windows 11 Home, 10.0.22621 Build 22621

Description

Able to play one match, but to play a second match, the game crashes, and have to End Task the game via Task Manager to reboot/relaunch the game. The issue is related to a graphic adapter and mentioned as DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED.

Resolution

Execute a Clean Installation During Driver Installation

  1. Download the most recent Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics.
  2. Click the .exe to initiate the driver installation.
  3. Agree to the Intel Software License Agreement.
  4. Click the checkbox to Execute a clean installation.
    • A clean installation removes all old drivers, including the OEM driver, and restores Intel settings to the default value.
  5. Click Start to begin the installation.
  6. Reboot the system if prompted.
  7. Test the game.

Adjusting the Virtual Memory of your system

  1. Press the Windows key + "X" Key.
  2. Select System.
  3. On the right side of that window, click Advanced System Settings.
  4. Select Performance.
  5. Select Settings.
  6. Select the Advanced tab.
  7. Go to Virtual Memory and select the Change option.
  8. Turn off Automatically manage paging file and select the drive.
  9. Go to Custom Size and set Initial and Max to 4096.
  10. Restart your system
  11. Test your game.
