Unable to Use or Select Discrete Graphics Card When Playing Games on Desktop Systems

Desktop System that has an Integrated and Discrete Graphics adapter

Description

When playing games, the game only uses the integrated graphics card, and not the discrete graphics card.

Resolution

Refer to the table below for the troubleshooting guidance.

Check Graphics Driver
  • Ensure the driver of the Discrete Graphics Adapter is Installed.
  • See if there is a graphics driver Installed. Do a Clean installation of the graphics driver.
Check BIOS Settings
  • Check the BIOS of your system if the Discrete Graphics Adapter is enabled.
Check the Output of System
  • Ensure that the output device of the system (like Monitors and TV) is connected to the Discrete Graphics Adapter.
  • See if the output device is connected to the Discrete Graphics Adapter, check the cables if they are seated properly or try another cable.
Check the Discrete Graphics Adapter 
  • Check the Adapter of the Graphics card if it's seated properly in the system.
  • Test the Graphics adapter in another system if you have one available.
  • Check the for signs of physical damage.
