Operating System

Windows® 10, 64-bit*

Description

The driver installer for Intel Iris Xe fails shortly after extracting the package without showing any errors.

Resolution

  1. Open File Explorer and go to the default folder of the Intel Graphics driver installer. (C:\ProgramData\Intel\GFXInstaller\IntelGFX.log)
  2. Open the file log "IntelGFX.log" as a text file.
  3. Search "ERROR|System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot load Counter Name data because an invalid index '' was read from the registry. Performance counters on the machine may need to be repaired."

If you find the same error message on the log, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Start and type "cmd".
  2. Right-click cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  3. Type "lodctr /r" and press enter.

You will then get the message: "Info: Successfully rebuilt performance counter setting from system backup store."

Make sure there are no pending Windows Updates. If Windows Update fails, contact Microsoft Support to get assistance on updating the OS prior to updating the graphics drivers.

If the issue persists, contact Intel Customer Support for further assistance.
