Black Screen When Using Alt+tab or Exiting Fullscreen Games in Windows

Description

Getting 1-2 seconds of black screen when alt+tab or exiting fullscreen games in Windows.

Resolution

Games on PC offer three types of display modes: Fullscreen Exclusive (FSE), Windowed, and Borderless Windowed.

For more information, refer to Demystifying Fullscreen Optimizations.

Below are the instructions on how to check Fullscreen Optimizations is enabled for a game.

  1. Right-Click the Executable File (.exe) and select Properties.
  2. Select the Compatibility Tab.
  3. Under Settings – make sure “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations” is unchecked.
  4. Click Apply.

If the issue still happens with some games, that means the game may not support Fullscreen Optimizations, enable borderless windowed mode in game settings instead.
