Environment

Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory

Description

There is no information on how many I/O command queues are supported by the Intel® Optane™ persistent memory.

Resolution

Intel® Optane™ persistent memory is different from regular storage drives and even Intel® Optane™ memory.

Common PCIe storage devices will use the NVMe protocol and the I/O bus to transfer data, while the Intel® Optane™ persistent memory is a memory device, not a storage device, and uses the memory bus (not the I/O bus).

Since this is a memory device, it uses a DDR interface (like DRAM), and due to the difference in their nature, they cannot be compared using I/O queue depth specifications, as the I/O queue depth is a parameter within the storage device scope.
