Why the Boot Order Would Change When the Boot Drive Is Swapped in UEFI Boot Mode

Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000094412   |   Last Reviewed: 04/10/2023

Description

When we swap out a drive from the front drive bay (we use that as boot drive currently), the boot order would change. And the drive will be on the last entry on boot devices.

Resolution

Unlike the legacy boot mode, this is expected behavior for UEFI boot mode.

A boot option will be removed automatically when the option is no longer valid (such as removing a boot drive) resulting a change in boot order.
