Which Transport Layer Security (TLS) phases does Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) engage in?

Content Type: Product Information & Documentation   |   Article ID: 000093845   |   Last Reviewed: 09/19/2023

Description

To transmit data over TLS, firstly TLS handshake should be finished and then the application data will be transferred over TLS. Which phase does QAT engage in: only TLS handshake, or both TLS handshake and application data transferring over TLS?

Resolution

Intel® QAT engage in both phases: TLS handshake and data transferring over TLS. Basically, what Intel® QAT does is offloading the computation of cryptographic related operations that may happen during the TLS handshake or during data transferring over TLS.
