Intel Xeon

Intel® W790 Chipset PCH is a specific chipset for Intel® Xeon® Workstation Processors and is not compatible with other processor families.

Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors are not compatible with the Intel® W790 chipset.

The Intel® W790 chipset is specifically designed for Intel® Xeon® W-3500, W-2500, W-3400, and W-2400 processors, which are part of the Intel® Xeon® Workstation Processors. These processors utilize the Intel® W790 chipset to deliver advanced workstation capabilities, including support for PCIe Gen 5.0, DDR5 RDIMM memory, and other platform innovations.

Intel® W790 Chipset Features:

  • Up to 112 lanes of PCIe Gen 5.0 for high-speed connectivity.
  • Support for DDR5 RDIMM memory with up to 4 TB capacity.
  • Integrated Intel® Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 GbE wired network connectivity.
  • Up to 5 USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20G) ports for high-speed data transfer.

Platform-Specific Design:

The W790 chipset is optimized for professional workloads such as 3D rendering, AI development, and engineering simulations. It provides configuration flexibility for high-speed network cards, graphics accelerators, and large-volume storage arrays.

Compatibility:

Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors (e.g., 4th Gen Sapphire Rapids-SP, %th Gen Emerald Rapids) are not supported by the Intel® W790 chipset.

Alternative Chipsets for Xeon® Scalable Processors:

Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors are typically paired with server chipsets like the Intel® C741 or C621A, depending on the processor generation and platform requirements.
