Screen Colors Appears Washed Out After Updating Graphics Driver on systems with Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics.

Description

After updating the system (Windows updates and driver updates) the colors on the screen look washed out.

Resolution

  1. Uninstall all Graphics Drivers. (Intel Graphics and 3rd party Graphics)
    1. Uninstall Intel Graphics Driver
      1. Disconnect from the internet to make sure the driver will not be automatically updated by Windows.
      2. Go back to the Intel Graphics entry in the Device Manager.
      3. Right-click Intel Graphics and click Uninstall.
      4. In the device removal dialog box, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
      5. Restart the computer after the uninstallation is complete.
    2. Uninstall third party graphics drivers
      1. Press the Windows Key and type Control Panel.
      2. Click Programs.
      3. Click Uninstall a program.
      4. Look for your Graphics Driver in the search box (or scroll to find it in the list).
      5. Click it and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall it.

    If you can't find your graphics driver in the control panel, do the following:
    1. Press the Windows Key and type "Device Manager".
    2. Go to Display adapters.
    3. Right-click the appropriate device and Select Uninstall device.
    4. Check the option Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
    5. Click Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall it.
       
  2. Uninstall any color management application
    1. Press the Windows Key and type "Control Panel".
    2. Click Programs.
    3. Click Uninstall a program.
    4. Type the name of the application (e.g. MSI True Color) in the search box (or scroll to find it in the list).
    5. Click the app name and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to uninstall it.
       
  3. Reboot computer.
     
  4. Manually install all the latest graphics driver (Intel generic driver and 3rd party driver).

    2. To reinstall the 3rd party graphics driver, refer to the manufacturer's website.
       
  5. If issue still persists, uninstall all the graphics drivers and instead of installing the latest graphics driver. Install the recommended drivers from the OEM (both Intel Graphics driver and 3rd party graphics driver).
