Steps to load a Storage Driver using the Have Disk method during OS installation

Description

During Windows OS installation there is no storage drive available to install to.

Resolution

If the operating system does not contain the proper drivers for a storage controller it will not be able to detect devices connected to the system.  If this is the case, these drivers will need to be loaded during the installation process.

Follow the instructions below to properly detect available storage drives for OS installation.

  1. Download the f6 driver package for the storage controller to be installed and unzip to a USB flash drive.
    1. Example: If the Intel® RST driver is required, select the right package to be downloaded depending on the platform from here: What Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver Is Supported on My Platform?
  2. Start the Windows OS Installation process.
  3. Press Load driver. (This is the driver from step 1.)
  4. Press Browse.
  5. Select the USB drive that contains the F6 driver and expand the folder that contains the driver. Press OK.
  6. Select the proper driver (something like iaStorAC.sys for example) and press Next to proceed.
  7. Select the drive for OS installation and press Next.
