An update in the Windows architecture has created compatibility issues with the Intel NVMe Driver and may result in a BSOD in certain configurations.

Description

In Windows Server* 2022 the way the OS internally stores processor group and corresponding NUMA node information was modified.

These architectural changes can cause the NVMe driver to crash in certain CPU configurations, systems that contain more than 64 logical processors, with a stop code of 0xD1.

Resolution

Systems that contain more than 64 logical processors should utilize the Microsoft inbox NVMe* driver.
